One week in Beirut - Lebanon

The Pigeons or Raouche Rocks are the most famous landmark in Beirut.

Beirut is one of the oldest cities in the world, which I always heard it was beautiful and worth visiting, but it was not until two weeks ago that I was able to verify it myself. Since I arrived the place smelled good like a place that I was going to love. Known as "The Paris of the Middle East" reminds me a lot of Miami with a bit of Los Angeles, this city also stands out for its beautiful architecture, natural landscapes and lifestyle. The city is full of contrasts, tall buildings, ancient mosques, churches, palaces, etc.

Beirut es una de las ciudades mas antiguas del mundo, y sobre la que siempre escuche que era hermosa y valía la pena visitar, pero no fue hasta hace dos semanas que pude comprobarlo yo misma. Desde que llegue el lugar olía rico como un lugar que me iba a encantar. Conocida como “La París del Medio Oriente” me hace recordar mucho a Miami con un poco de Los Angeles, también esta ciudad destaca por su hermosa arquitectura, sus paisajes naturales y estilo de vida. La ciudad esta llena de contrastes, edificios altos, antiguas mezquitas, iglesias, palacios, etc.

From my balcony I wake up with the view of a blue Mediterranean sea and on the other side some big mountains that during the winter many families visit to go skiing. Something that should be highlighted is that Lebanon is a country that unlike other Middle Eastern countries has 39% of its Christian population and 59% that professes Islam, for this reason it is a freer country than the rest of its neighbors. Definitely a place which anyone can walk safely and also if you don't speak Arabic is not a problem, since most people speak English. 

Desde mi balcón despierto con la vista de un mar Mediterráneo azul y al otro lado con unas grandes montañas a las que en invierno muchas familias visitan para esquiar. Algo que cabe resaltar es que el Líbano es un país que a diferencia de otros paises del Medio Oriente tiene el 39% de su población Cristiana y un 59% que profesa el Islam, por esta razón es un país mas libre que el resto de sus vecinos. Definitivamente un lugar por el cual uno puede caminar seguro y que también el no hablar árabe no es problema, ya que la mayoría de personas hablan inglés.

The Lebanese society is ostentatious, they care a lot about physical beauty and dressing in style; This is how walking through Downtown Beirut you find boutiques like Cartier, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Ellie Saab, among others. If something also call my attention is that in this city beauty salons are not lacking, in every corner it is inevitable to find one. I could also appreciate many women with exaggerated but perfect makeup, I have to admit, this place has the best makeup artists in the world in my opinion, and of course we can't forget about hair, they are experts with that as well. 

La sociedad libanesa es ostentosa, rinden culto a la belleza física y al buen vestir; es así como caminando por el centro de la ciudad me encuentro con boutiques como Cartier, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Ellie Saab, entre otras. Si algo también me llamó  la atención, es que en esta ciudad los salones de belleza no faltan, en cada esquina es inevitable encontrar uno. También pude apreciar a muchas mujeres con maquillaje exagerado pero perfecto, lo tengo que admitir, este lugar tiene a los mejores maquilladores del mundo, y claro como olvidarnos del cabello, son unos expertos con eso también.

If we talk about the nightlife, Beirut is one of the cities with the best nightclubs and bars I've been to, just like Dubai. The 2 clubs I really liked are,  O1NE and Al Mandaloun. There is no way to not have fun, since every day there are open places with a good atmosphere. But don't think I'm forgetting the most important thing... No! The food is amazing, fish and seafood restaurants by the sea, fast food like Shwarma, typical Lebanese dishes like hummus, kibbe, lamb stew, arak, etc, everything always accompanied by desserts and delicious fruits.

Si hablamos de la vida nocturna, Beirut es una de las ciudades con mejores discotecas y bares a los que he ido al igual que Dubai. Las 2 mejores discotecas a las que fui son, O1NE y Al Mandaloun. No hay manera de no divertirte, ya que todos los días hay lugares abiertos con muy buen ambiente. Pero no crean que me estoy olvidando de lo mas importante... No!!! La comida es increíble, restaurantes de pescados y mariscos frente al mar, comida rápida como Shwarma, platos típicos  libaneses como hummus, kibbe, guisado de cordero, arak, etc. Todos acompañados de postres y frutas deliciosas.

Last but not least, I visited 2 must-see places in Lebanon, first one is the historical city of Byblos, in Jbeil district, northeast of Beirut. It was an important site for civilizations like the Phoenicians and the Greeks, It was founded in 7000BC and continuously inhabited since 5000BC until today. The most important tourist spot is the old souk, a medieval and picturesque area, filled with small local shops that sell souvenirs, local crafts and other merchandise, there are also bars and cafes along the walk. Second one is the coastal city of Jounieh, the main attraction in this place is the Teleferique, an aerial cableway that will take you from the city to the top of the mountain of Harissa, where you will find The Lady of Lebanon, a immense Virgin Mary statue, that it is on top of The  Catholic  Basilic of Notre Dame du Liban,  you will also love the panoramic view of the bay you will get from the top. 

Por último, en mi estadía pude visitar dos lugares imprescindibles en el Líbano, la primero es la histórica ciudad de Byblos, en el distrito de Jbeil, al noreste de Beirut. Era un sitio importante para civilizaciones como los fenicios y los griegos. Fue fundado en el año 7000 AC y habitado continuamente desde 5000 AC hasta hoy. El lugar turístico más importante de este lugar es el old souk, una medieval y pintoresca area, el cual está llena de pequeñas tiendas locales que venden recuerdos, artesanías y otros productos, también hay bares y cafés a lo largo del paseo. La segunda es la ciudad costera de Jounieh, la principal atracción en este lugar es el Teleférico, un sistema de transporte aéreo que te llevará desde la ciudad hasta la cima de la montaña de Harissa, donde encontrarás a la Dama del Líbano, una inmensa estatua de la Virgen María que se encuentra encima de la Basilica Católica Notre-Dame du Liban, también te encantará la vista panorámica de la bahía que podrás ver desde la cima.

If you ever have the opportunity to visit this place, don't hesitate, its a beautiful place with so much culture, I'm happy I got to see all this in just one week, touring and having fun, all tempting me to go back very soon.
